Ms. Pamela Wells, Concerned Citizen, Rockford, IL
Ms. Wells wrote: My brother was an officer killed in the line of duty. We are currently awaiting the verdict which is painful enough. To have to relive every three years and fight to keep the person in jail who killed him horrifies me.This killer should not be considered for parole.
Sgt. Curtis Jackson, Collinsville P.D., Collinsville, IL « Ms. Barb Stone, Winnebago Co. States Attorney Office, Rockford, IL Officer Richard A. Andersen, Rockford P.D. (Ret.), Rockford, « Officer Loyal Slaughter, Rockford P.D. (Ret.), Rockford, IL « Detective Glenn Denny, Winnebago Co. SPD (Ret.), Rockford, IL «
Sgt. Jackson wrote: Bacino should have received the death penalty in the first place. To even consider him or any other murderer for parole is insane. Receiving death, or life in prison without parole for taking another's life with no justification is fair and just. No exceptions! No parole for Bacino!
Ms. Stone wrote: There is so much more to what a violent man Theodore Bacino is - this was not the first hostage-robbery situation he was in and he checked himself into a mental institution after serving his first prison sentence - he should never be released.
Officer Andersen wrote: I am a retired police officer of the Rockford Police Dept. I was at the scene and talked to Mike just before he was shot and tried to give him first-aid. No, never parole Inmate C02070 Bacino.
Chief Jan Noble, Belvidere Police Department, Belvidere, IL «
Chief Noble wrote: Deputy Mayborne and I were classmates at Rock Valley College. Theodore Bacino still shows no remorse for his crime. Please deny his parole request.
Officer Slaughter wrote: I was working the day Michael was shot and was enroute to the scene to assist. Mr. Bacino should never be paroled. Mike is not able to be considered for parole, he is dead because of this man. He ruined a wonderful family by his actions and he should pay for them dearly.
Detective Denny wrote: As a retired Sheriff's Detective I do not believe anyone who kills a police officer should ever get out.
Ms. Deborah Kimes, Concerned Citizen, Rockton, IL
Ms. Kimes wrote: As the daughter of a retired police officer and a concerned citizen of the State of Illinois, I respectfully request that Theodore Bacino be kept behind bars for the rest of his natural life and that the maximum amount of time between parole reviews be assessed. It is yet another crime against the Mayborne family every time they must fight to keep their husband and father's killer in prison.
Sgt. Lawrence Wallen, US Army M.P., (Ret.), Hinesville, GA «
Sgt. Lawrence wrote: I went to school (to study police science) with Mike Mayborne. On trips home to see friends and family, I never got to see Mike or talk to him. I don't believe anyone who murders a police officer should ever see the light of day again.
Sgt. Laurance Drish, Cook County Sheriff’s Police, Maywood, IL «
Sgt. Drish wrote: Due to the violent nature of the crime, I feel the subject should remain incarcerated. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments.
Officer Gary Maitland, Cherry Valley P.D, Cherry Valley, IL «
Officer Maitland wrote: For the Mayborne family and for police officers and their families throughout the State of Illinois, please deny Mr. Bacino's parole request, and let him serve the remainder of his sentence.
Deputy Robert Ferger, Winnebago County SPD, Machesney Park, IL «
Deputy Ferger wrote: Mr. Bacino does not deserve to be released. He took a dear friend of mine, and I hope you keep him in jail for the rest of his life. I have stronger language for this but choose not to use it.
Ms. Suzie Sawyer, N.C.O.P.S., Camdention, MO
Ms. Sawyer wrote: On behalf of the 15,000 surviving families represented by Concerns of Police Survivors, we implore the Parole Board to deny parole to Theodore Bacino. The passage of time has not lessened the hurt of Officer Mayborne's family and Mr. Bacino should be reminded of the pain he inflicted on this law enforcement family every day of his life. And to remind him of that pain in an even more effective way, deny his parole!
Detective Ted Pilafas, Chicago PD, Chicago, IL «
Detective Pilafas wrote: I am a 28 year police veteran, and have taken an oath to protect the people that I serve. With a brutal person like Theodore Bacino behind bars for the rest of his life would make the streets, and people much safer.
Ms. Barbara Crotty, Concerned Citizen, Chicago, IL
Ms. Crotty wrote: As the Mother, Daughter-in-law, sister, and sister-in-law of Chicago Police Officers, and a concerned citizen, I OPPOSE PAROLE for #C02070 Theodore Bacino.
Detective Joe Bowes, Chicago PD, Chicago, IL «
Detective Bowes wrote: Anyone that is willing to kill the symbol of freedom in this country does not deserve freedom himself.
Detective Brian Lawrence, Elgin PD, Elgin, IL «
Detective Lawrence wrote: A police officer doing his duty was killed in cold blood by Bacino. The parole board should deny this man the right to walk our streets ever again. A police officer's life was forfeited and irreparable harm has been done. 34 years of incarceration is insufficient for Bacino's crime.
Officer Roberto Soberano, Elgin PD, Elgin, IL «
Officer Soberano wrote: Paroling this man sends the wrong message to those who have no respect for law enforcement. Please do not dishonor Michael Mayborne's sacrifice as well as all the other murdered law enforcement officers by letting this man free.
Ms. Leigh Sterrenberg, Concerned Citizen, Rockford, IL
Ms. Sterrenberg wrote: I do not believe that this inmate should ever be released - not now or at any point of time in the future. He knew exactly what he was doing when he took Dep. Mayborne's life & consciously chose to do so, knowing that he was a law enforcement officer. This type of person should not be allowed his freedom - ever.
Mr. Jason Johnsen, Concerned Citizen, Evergreen Park, IL
Mr. Johnsen wrote: The idea of the person guilty of this crime being allowed to go free disgusts me. Please do everything in your power to prevent this convict from ever achieving parole.
Chief George Kratochvil, North Riverside PD (Ret.), Sunrise Beach, MO «
Chief Kratochvil wrote: As the retired Police Chief of North Riverside, Illinois and serving my Village for over thirty-one years. There is no reason that a convicted murderer of a dedicated police officer should ever be allowed out on parole. We do dedicate our lives protecting others that can't protect themselves. Why should we allow someone out on the streets who has robbed every citizen of this protection.
Mr. Michael Fietko, Concerned Citizen, Chicago, IL
Mr. Fietko wrote: The fact that this man would even be considered for parole is sickening. I come from a police family and any person who has such senseless disregard for life, especially that of someone who risks his life for others is disturbing. I lose more and more faith in our system as I hear of things like this. Do this officer justice and keep this monster in jail.
Detective Bill Herling, Belleville PD, Belleville, IL «
Detective Herling wrote: Bacino should never get parole. He has had it once and did not change. He is equal to a terrorist in my mind. He only stands against what this Country is defined as.
Officer Diane Bucci, Oak Brook PD (Ret.), Brookfield, IL «
Officer Bucci wrote: I am retired from Oak Brook Police Department, have a son, son-in-law, daughter-in-law who are all in law enforcement. I do not support parole for anyone who is convicted of murder, especially an officer protecting us.
Lieutenant Brad Sibley, Dixon PD, Dixon, IL «
Lt. Sibley wrote: It is very unfortunate that the families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty can't move on because of things like this. They shouldn't be burdened with petitioning to keep the offender in prison; it should be a given.
Commander Gary Scharringhausen, Hawthorn Woods PD, Hawthorn, IL « Mr. Steve Benicke, Concerned Citizen, Darien, IL Sincerely, Deputy Thomas Brimhall, Winnebago County SPD, Rockford, IL « Thank You. Officer Joe Hitchcock, Canton PD, Canton, IL « Sheriff Roger Mulch, Jefferson County SPD, Mt Vernon, IL « Sheriff Mike Emery, McLean County SPD, Bloomington, IL « Parole Agent John Rustin, IDOC., Maywood, IL « Officer Eric Waitrovich, Fox River Grove PD, Fox River Grove, IL « Ms. Amanda Frazier, Concerned Citizen, Fayetteville, AR Mr. Gerald Finley, Concerned Citizen, Rockford, IL Ms. Holly Coy, Concerned Citizen, Loves Park, IL Trooper Kimberly Russell, Illinois State Police, Durand, IL « Trooper Randall Larson, Illinois State Police, Pecatonica, IL «
Commander Scharringhausen wrote: Any person who takes the life of a person who has dedicated his life to helping others should never see freedom again. If this person is allowed to be let out of prison we all face the possibility he will destroy the life and family of another. The patrol board needs to send a message. There is no freedom for a cop killer.
Chief Deputy Kurt Ditzler, Winnebago Co. SPD, Rockford, IL «
Deputy Chief Ditzler wrote: My father worked with Mike, and is now retired. Bacino should not be able to live the life that Mike was robbed of, and his brother officers (many of whom are now retired) have earned. He needs to stay in prison and serve the sentence he was given as a result of his actions and decisions on March 15, 1974. The parole board should not allow Bacino to "retire" from his sentence.
Deputy Julie Laidler, Peoria Co. SPD, Peoria, IL «
Deputy Laidler wrote: We have also lost a deputy from the Peoria County Sheriff's Office in the line of duty and so we understand how important this is. Thank you for inviting us to participate.
Detective Joseph Agosta, Chicago PD, Chicago, IL «
Detective Agosta wrote: This is a wonderful website and a great tribute to a great man. Please do not hesitate to contact me for future support. Bacino should never be paroled.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Rosenquist, Woodstock PD, Woodstock, IL «
Detective Rosenquist wrote: To parole this subject would be a travesty and injustice to the memory and life of Detective Michael Mayborne.
Ms. Loretta Bates, Concerned Citizen, Rockford, IL
Ms. Bates wrote: Mike was a wonderful man who was denied his life with his family because of a man breaking the law. I think officers should not have to put their lives on the line.....when someone has a gun, the police should shoot first and not be so "KIND" that it cost them their lives...in Ted Bacino's own words.
Deputy Santo Duffy, Cook Co. SPD, Bridgeview, IL «
Deputy Duffy wrote: In summary, I have been a Cook County Sheriff's Police Officer since 1991, and in may opinion if you take a life you lose the right to get parole. I respectfully request you vote no on Inmate parole#C02070. Thank You in advanced on your NO! vote. S. Duffy #527.
Firefighter Dwain Deppolder, Peoria FD, Peoria, IL «
Firefighter Deppolder wrote: As a member of the City of Peoria Fire Department Office of Emergency Management, I think this individual should remain in the custody of the prison system and denied any and all chances of parole.
Ms. Carol VanWinkle, Concerned Citizen, Hanna City, IL
Ms. VanWinkle wrote: When a police officer is murdered, it tears at the fabric of our Civilization and the safety of our Citizens. All people MUST understand that if they choose to attack, maim, or kill a police officer...justice will be swift, it will be severe, and it will be permanent. Otherwise we are asking for chaos as perpetrators consider the immediate benefit to themselves versus the potential cost...which might be mitigated through parole.
Deputy Chief Otis Steward, Wood River PD, Wood River, IL «
Chief Steward wrote: In 1974 Theodore Bacino made a conscious decision to take the life of another human being in attempts to escape. Bacino's decision to avoid prosecution has greatly impacted a family and an entire community. He was found guilty and presumably given numerous appeals. The Mayborne family has no recourse or second chances. Remind Bacino that if he had opted to not commit a crime in the first place or MURDER Officer Mayborne he would not be in prison. The Parole Review Board needs to due its civic duty and uphold the sentence handed down by a court of law.
Sergeant Thomas Bender, Wauconda PD, Wauconda, IL «
Sgt. Bender wrote: Bacino killed a police officer who was doing his job. Bacino knew what he was doing. His sentence was set at a minimum of 75 years. He should do at least 75 years.
Mr. Benicke wrote: As a former shipmate of Michael Mayborne, the victim of this outrage committed by Theodore Bacino; as well as a concerned citizen and resident of the State of Illinois, I am Strongly opposing any parole consideration for Theodore Bacino. While Theodore Bacino may be old and infirm he is still alive and Michael Mayborne is not. Theodore Bacino willfully and knowingly shot Detective Michael Mayborne while Michael was executing his duties as a peace officer in attempting to apprehend Theodore Bacino following a bank robbery and aborted kidnapping. Theodore Bacino displayed a complete lack of regard for rules governing society, and, as a result, took the life of Michael, a fine officer, husband and father, and former cold war submarine veteran. It is a simple matter of respect for our law-abiding society and our criminal justice system that Theodore Bacino completes at least 75 years of the 75 to 100 year sentence imposed by the courts. I stand firmly against any parole consideration for this person and YOU should as well!!
Steve Benicke,
Concerned Citizen and former shipmate of Michael aboard USS Corporal
Deputy Brimhall wrote: Inmate Bacino should not be given a chance at freedom. He made his decisions and choices in life long ago and needs to pay for his choices. Some say Police Officers make the choice to do their job and know the risks, true. Detective Mayborne knew the risks and paid the ultimate price. Detective Mayborne's sacrifice and duty should be honored and respected by Inmate Bacino continuing to pay for his decisions and choices. Detective Mayborne did not and will not get a second chance, neither should Inmate Bacino. Inmate Bacino may argue he is suffering medical difficulties from wounds he received, yet we must remember how those wounds were caused, by his own actions and decisions. As a current Deputy on the same department in which Detective Mayborne served I would hate to think a person who ended my life or that of my co-worker would be released for any reason. I would also hate to think survivors and family would have to repeatedly ask that the offender serve a sentence he was given for his actions. Police Officers and Deputies are part of the criminal justice system and would like to believe that the same system we support will support us and our families in return if we should ever become a victim. Please uphold Inmate Bacino's sentence and deny his parole until it is fully served.
Deputy T. Brimhall
Winnebago County Sheriff's Police
Officer Hitchcock wrote: Police Officers go places and do things so that the citizens of our communities do not have to encounter dangerous criminals on a regular basis. An offender who is brazen enough to kill law enforcement personnel has no respect for society. If such an individual is willing to kill a law enforcement officer he would have no hesitation to kill civilians. Having such an individual paroled in my opinion would embolden this individual and others like him intent on destroying our communities.
Sheriff Mulch wrote: Hold high the torch for deceased Michael Mayborne, Detective, Winnebago County. Do not allow his killer to be set free. This hero’s family and friends need our support to continue his memory and uplift his legacy.
Sheriff Emery wrote: Dear Mayborne Family, I pray that your effort to have parole denied for Theodore Bacino is successful.
Agent Rustin wrote: Where does this end. We used to put murders away for life and now, we see more and more of life being looked at as less and less important. Now here we have a man who gave his life defending our rights and liberties and this is how we want to repay him? I think we owe him more then that and those who serve today and in the future.
Officer Waitrovich wrote: Whether he killed a fellow policeman or a fellow citizen, justice needs to follow through and this person needs to serve his time to the end.
Ms. Frazier wrote: I find it to be disheartening that this inmate is even being considered for parole and that this fallen officer's family must worry about this event yearly. How can we as citizens expect law enforcement officials to protect us every day and risk their lives to do this if this is how we repay them and their families?
Mr. Finley wrote: I feel very strongly that Mr. Bacino should never be paroled. This man new very well what he was getting into when he made the choices he made that day back in 1974. For anyone to consider him as reformed and a good candidate for parole is a crime all to itself. I will never understand a system that lets a convicted murderer that received a 100 year sentence, the chance to ever get out of prison before fully serving his sentence. Mr. Bacino should get out of prison when they carry him out in a casket.
Ms. Coy wrote: My father is Ron Betts, fellow-officer at the time of Mike's murder. He was standing behind Mike when Bacino shot and killed him. My father was uninjured during this exchange, but Mike stands for all the men who are killed in the line of duty and unwillingly leave devastated families behind. Mike never gets to come home, so there is NO way the convicted killer of a policeman should go home either.
Trooper Russell wrote: Why should this man be given his freedom when he took the life of another. Officers put their life on the line every day to protect our citizens. You need to keep this man in prison to protect society from him.
Trooper Larson wrote: The job of being a police officer in a fast growing community is hard enough just dealing with the next generation of criminals. I see no reason to put a known killer and threat to the public back on the streets to try again. It may be one of my friends, my family or neighbors or even me that is in the wrong place when he decides that he can play God and end another good persons life. He is right where he belongs for the "REST of his LIFE". Thank You for taking the time to read this message, This is important to me and my fellow Police Officers.
